Speak Out Against Voter Suppression

ISSUE: Although Florida had great success handling record voter turn-out in the 2020 general election, Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida Senate Republicans are backing proposed legislation in a thinly disguised attempt at voter suppression.

Among other things, State Senate Bill 90 and the new plan introduced by DeSantis would:

  • Reduce ballot drop box sites
  • Ban ballot “harvesting”
  • Require people to annually request a vote by mail ballot, which would require everyone to resubmit requests for the 2022 election
  • Make it illegal for people to possess ballots other than their own and their immediate family

While the stated goal is to “increase ballot integrity and transparency in the elections process,” the real goal is to make it harder to vote, particularly for people who are poor, less educated or don’t have extensive voting experience.

Just in time for 2022  - when DeSantis and Rubio are up for re-election.

Florida joins at least 28 states that have introduced, pre-filed or are advancing numerous bills in upcoming state legislative sessions aimed at restricting voting.

SCRIPT: My name is xxx and my zip code is xxx. I am a proud member of Palm Beach Indivisibles. I strongly oppose the latest voting proposals by Florida Senate Republicans and Governor DeSantis, which are nothing more than voter suppression. Florida needs to make it easier for people to vote, not more difficult. Republican-proposed laws that make it harder to vote, by mail or otherwise, are just a way to cheat to win. I expect you to stand up for me and protect the democratic process of voting.
